Alternative Breast Enhancement Treatments - The New Kids on the Block

With silicone implants rapidly going out of fashion, this article reviews a couple of the new kids on the block in the world of breast enhancement - Macrolane and Perfect C.

It seems that "comedy" shaped breasts, those silicone injected, pneumatic centres of attention for every Barbie-esque individual (especially those in LA) are going out of fashion due to the wealth of choices available to women who want to improve their breast size. With new treatments coming out every month, it's high time someone put these supplements to the test to see what came out breast..I mean best. Here's a low down on two of the top contenders.

MACROLANE

Background

Having spent several years in development, this new treatment was launched a few months ago. It involves an injection of stabilised hyaluronic acid into the breast which allows the breast to be shaped to the desire of the client. The key is is in the fact that human skin is 40% hyaluronic acid and acts like a padding within the framework of the collagen. The difference is immediately noticeable with a smoother appearance being given and no lumps and bumps. With a treatment time of between 30 and 90 minutes, Macrolane can be administered quicklybut can be uncomfortable for a few days afterwards.

Does it work?

While is it said to give immediate results and that a more natural fullness can be achieved, some surgeons have stated that the difference is subtle and that after 12 months it will not be noticeable.

How safe is it?

having spent so many years being developed, Q-Med, the company behind Macrolane, claim that Macrolane is very safe. In addition, the translucency of Macrolane is better than that of silicon implants and this is a vital factor when it comes to mammography and the diagnosis or management of breast disease. Q-Med also only supply Macrolane to doctors who have been trained in its use.

Detractors of the prouct have stated that there is little evidence of Macrolane being a good product and that current users of Macrolane are being recruited as guinea pigs for ongoing research. Side-effects include a slight swelling and pain for approximately a week after treatment.

How long does it last?

Between one year and 18 months.

How much does it cost?

One treatment using 100ml for each breast will cost approximately Ј2,800. Additionally yearly treatments cost approximately Ј1,400.

PERFECT C

Background

Perfect C is a pill based breast enhancemment treatment that claims to use natural, botanical ingredients that have oestrogenic properties to trigger increased oestrogen levels, which in turn stimulates new breast tissue growth. The ingredients include fennel seed and Mexican wild yam.

Does it work?

According to celebrities, Tara Palmer-Tomkinson and Sienna Miller, it does. Hormonally, Perfect C Breast Enhancer is most effective for women in the age group of between 23 and 35. The makers of Perfect C claim that effects are noticeable after two months, with improvements being fuller, firmer, larger breasts. Outside the target age group, the effects will take longer to notice.

How safe is it?

While research is being carried out in to the long-term effects of stimulating oestrogen levels, the makers of Perfect C state that it does not use synthetic hormones and has no side-effects. Additional benefits also include improved skin while the product is in use. It is important to check with your GP that the Perfect C supplements won't interfere with any other medication you may be taking.

How long does it last?

The results are claimed to be long-lasting. The recommended dose is two capsules, three times a week, for a couple of months after you reach your target size.

How much does it cost?

Approximately Ј155 for a three month supply.
